Just curious if anyone Knows of a good place to ride this coming Monday. I was thinking about Carvins, Douthat or Sherando (sp). I have heard most of these still have snow so they are out. does anybody know of anyplace that is pen and rideable?

I'd say you're right about Carvins for sure...

I'd recommend checking out the following:

Dark Mtn/ OVT (still maybe a little snowy)

These don't have the elevation changes but are still cool and you can make a day trip out of it...
Beech Springs MTB Park
Catawba White Water Center
check www.tarheeltrailblazers.com for trail closings...

I might be able to go to dark mountain on monday. Not sure if I have to work or not. forecast looks good but it still might be soft in some spots.

Dark Mtn trail should be rideable, as should OVT. Their soil drains very well, esp. Dark Mtn.

Beech Springs Mtb trails are off I-85 South, just north of Charlotte. Take the Poplar Tent exit, turn right off the ramp. There will be a gas station on your right. Take the road to the right next to the station and go about 1 mile. Trail head will be on your left. There is a kiosk with a box to make a donation. Last time I was there it was $3.00.

FYI. OVT Last Friday was a mess. Turned around before Shiner's. I am not sure how much Wilkesboro got Tues. night. It does generally drain/dry well.

My wife is doing the duathlon at Salem Lake Sat. Does anyone know the lake road condition?

I called Just the Right Gear yesterday and Carvin's Cove does not sound good. Still snow on north-facing slopes. malleus

Gone29er,

check out reviews of Beech Springs on the usual websites...mtbr.com, singletracks.com etc... it'll break down what to expect....

the trail has an unusual layout... kind of like a daisy flower if you will, theres an inner loop with various "petal" loops that off shoot from the main loop... it helps to hook up with someone who's riden there before but just make for a little extra time for exploration if you can't get someone...

there's some cool sections such as "devil's drop" and "gravity cavity" as well as a few freeride-light wooden elements as well. Really a little something for everyone...

Last time I was there, the suggested donation was $5

the trails were blazed and are maintained by an ex Moto racer who lives nearby

BTW...forgot to mention Lake Norman's trails... great cross county-ish riding...should roll like a freight train on your 29er
