question/clarification 7 Months ago
During the meeting, the subject of "hours of use" on BH was brought up.(no riding 10pm to 6 am).
i understand the point, not wanting to disturb the nearby homes with cars coming in and out of the east lot late at night.
my question is...
would this apply only to BH or all the watershed trails?
clarification?

Was this because of a complaint from a homeowner who lives on Yanceyville?

Likely so. I thought Mark explained it well. We shouldn't push our luck with access after dark. Technically, all parks are closed from dusk to dawn. Exceptions are made for organized sporting events where lighting is in place. (Softball, soccer, etc)

You likely won't get any complaints if Reedy Fork is the only trail ridden, or, don't go near the homes on Y-ville.

GSOTrails was checking into it.

Error on the side of caution. Play it safe. Riding is not worth a trespassing charge.

hey, i'm all for being considerate and not makin' waves if it's gonna cause probs.
but i'd like to do some late rides this summer when it gets hot.
i know the parks(bur Mill, CP) are closed after hours.
but if there is a way to ride some of the watershed trails late, that would be nice.
if some that are away from residential areas can be ridden late it would be nice to know what is ok or off-limits.

Technically, the only trail that is forbidden for night riding is CP and that is because of a problem with break-ins and vandalism. They needed to keep the "good" people out so they could tell who the bad ones were. Generally, all the rest can be ridden at night. At OR, due to gate closures, you need to park outside. BH has the issue of the close neighbor, so consider that in your plans and the local sheriff deputies just weren't aware of the trail being there yet. Other than that, go for it!

Remember, safety first!

Re:question/clarification 7 Months ago
thanks mom.
thats the way i originally understood it.
when i asked at the meeting, it was kinda deferred to the girl who works at Burr Mill.
I know better to park inside a gate that will be locked when i get back, or to try and ride on a forbidden trail and risk a trespassin charge.
i wuss juss checkin', thanks for clearin' it up.

now..about BH.
will we be doin a total(ban) after hours, or just a (ban) on useing the lot?
if i park at RF, ride out, do BH and back, the neighbors should not be disturbed.
at some point this will come up.
might as well ask now.

I think what Madi and Mark were trying to say is that if you want to ride BH at night late at night like hitting the trail at post 10 pm, it would probably be better to park at Church and ride out and back, or park at Reedy on Lake Brandt and ride out and back. The problem that can be created is if we park at BH Yanceyville (house next door) late, car doors opening and shutting, loud voices, maybe post ride beers, all near that house could cause sleepless nights for the residents and problems with future trail access.

Once on the trail I don't think anyone really cares, it's the staging to get ready with car doors and voices that may disturb. Sometimes we like to enjoy post ride bevs and re-live the ride. Likely best done from Church Street parking lot or Reedy because there are no nearby home owners to disturb and no one will care.

I love night rides in the summer and post ride beverages!

Hmmm.

Alcohol consumption on city property is a recipe for losing night ride privileges. Period. If any MTBer can be connected to that via a homeowner complaint, you can bet the city will lock it down and the Sheriff's deputies will be lying in wait. Open alcoholic containers in city parks and trails is illegal.

Enjoy your ride. Leave the beer at home.
